Douglas M. Valek

Douglas M. Valek, born April 18, 1957 in Joliet, IL, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2024. A proud graduate of Joliet Catholic High School and St. Francis University, Douglas spent most of his life in Joliet, with a 30-year hiatus in Waterford, MI, before returning to his roots.

Doug was known for his love of history and science fiction literature, often found with a book in hand, deeply immersed in other worlds and times. As an adventurous young man, he enjoyed hiking at Starved Rock, soaking in the beauty of nature. He was also a passionate gamer and found joy in the company of his beloved cats, Runt and Snowball.

Doug was the cherished brother of Barbara (Laurence) Boldyga and Thomas J. Valek and loving uncle of many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Thomas and Amy Valek.
