Rita Barbosa

Rita Barbosa, born in East Chicago, Indiana, on September 2, 1940, entered into the Lord's arms on August 10, 2026, surrounded by the love of family and the memories of a life beautifully lived.

Rita was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Nena and Ricki Barbosa.

She was a graduate of St. Mary of the Lake Grammar School and Immaculata High School, both in Chicago, Illinois. Rita was a vibrant, thoughtful, and cheerful woman whose warmth and creativity touched the lives of those fortunate enough to know her.

Rita was a talented artist and possessed a beautiful singing voice. She had a genuine appreciation for music and enjoyed many different genres. She loved old movies from "Who done it" to Glamourous Hollywood. She was also a creative and talented cook and she certainly had a hearty sweet tooth!

Above all, Rita cherished her family. She loved spending time with them (Scrabble game anyone?) and created many special memories that will remain in their hearts. Her cheerful spirit, artistic talents, love of music, creativity, and generous nature will be deeply missed.

Rita is survived by her brother, Rick (Mary Jo) Barbosa; her uncle, Rudy Garcia (Rachael); and her aunt, Rosie Weres (Chet), along with many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.

Though Rita is no longer with us in person, the love she shared, the memories she created, and the joy she brought to her family and friends will live on. May she rest peacefully in heaven, forever surrounded by the love she gave so freely during her life.

A Celebration of Life for Rita will be held at a later date.
