Mary Challans, nee Carping, age 66, passed away May 10, 2024.  Beloved wife of Chuck; loving mother of Amanda (Nick Makara, fiancé) and Amber; devoted daughter of the late Ralph and Mollie M. Carping; cherished sister of Frances Kendall, Donna (Victor) Linas and David (Mikki) Carping; dearest aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Mary led a life devoted to aiding others, always extending a helping hand and going above and beyond to assist those in need. Her infectious humor and thoughtfulness brightened the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. A dedicated member of Parkview Christian Church in Homer Glen, Mary found solace and joy in her faith community, which held a special place in her heart.

Among the many passions that fueled Mary's spirit was her love for animals. Through this she earned her endearing title of “Cat Mama" for her compassionate care of her two cats Pumpkin and Samson and stray cats in her neighborhood. She found serenity in cultivating blooming gardens and took pleasure in collecting gemstones and rocks from her travels around the world, preserving these memories and many others through photographs and videos.

Family stood as the cornerstone of Mary's existence, with each moment spent alongside her loved ones marking a treasured accomplishment.  Mary's devotion to her family was unwavering. She was not only a loving wife but also a dedicated mother to her daughters Amanda and Amber. She found immense joy in guiding them through life's journey and supporting them in all their endeavors. Mary's role as a mother was central to her identity, and she embodied strength, grace, and unconditional love in everything she did.

Mary will forever be remembered for her remarkable ability to recall significant dates and celebrate the milestones of numerous individuals with genuine warmth and affection. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion and kindness that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with her.
