Marjorie R. Vandecarr, age 60, lifelong resident of Chicago, passed away June 17, 2023.  Beloved wife of Rafael Gonzalez; loving mother Alex (Alexis) and Mariah (Ricky Soto); devoted daughter of Margaret, nee Sutton and the late Vernon Vincent Vandecarr; cherished sister of Margo (Bill) Schall, Lawrence (Janet) Vandecarr, Debra (the late Dave) Miller, Donald (Mary Kay) and Wayne Vandecarr; dearest aunt, great aunt and great, great aunt of many; treasured fur mama of Nena, Meow Meow, Nova and Taco and fur grandma of Yuki, Toby, Wick, Gus, Mr. Beans and Coraline.

In Marjorie’s words, she “robbed the cradle” when Ralphy misled her about his age when they first starting dating.  But they were ultimately soulmates and she committed herself to him for 42 years.  She was the life of the party and the glue to her family.  Marjorie was the most selfless person and was always concerned for others before herself.  She was extremely proud of her children and as their number one fan, she was as equally a friend as she was a mother.  For Marjorie, motherhood and friendship extended to people of all ages and she was highly motivating to everyone.   She absolutely loved food and breaking bread with those she loved.  When appropriate, her eye roll was the best ever! Marjorie was a huge animal lover, from rescuing, fostering or raising animals, Margie opened her heart to all animals in need, often forming friendships along the way. This great love of service, she passed to her children. Not only were her doors open to four legged friends, but she also welcomed family and friends in need of a safe haven to feel a mother’s love.  Margie had an artistic flair for life and enjoyed filling her life with laughter and love. Even when feeling down, she was quick with a joke to bring smiles to those around her. Her laugh would bring a steady smile to anyone’s face and filled the room. She was also a very creative person, who enjoyed painting and decorating and filled their home with many plants and built a robust garden with her daughter, a living tribute to her rich character and love of life. Margie was also a big gardener who loved flowers, except for the run of mill roses.
