It is with a profound sense of loss that we announce the passing of Loula Merikas (née Sardelis), a remarkable presence who graced our lives from September 12, 1936, until her passing on January 27, 2026. Born in Greece, Loula reflected the warmth and vitality of her heritage throughout her life, which she spent devotedly nurturing her family and cultivating her passions in the serene beauty of her garden.

Loula was a woman of remarkable character and enduring spirit, known for her wit and humor. She was a dedicated wife and caretaker to her late husband, Gus Merikas, whose memory she cherished deeply. Loula's legacy is beautifully reflected in her family including her loving children, Angie (Bobby) Kyriakopoulos, Joanne (the late Bobby) Pavlis, Nick (Linda), George (Lola) and Chris (Panagiota) Merikas. Among her greatest accomplishments were the nurturing of her children and the joy she felt in her 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, who brought her boundless joy in the twilight of her years.

Loula's culinary skills were nothing short of legendary; she was known as a great cook whose delicious meals brought family and friends together around the table. Her love of gardening, particularly her adoration for sunflowers, mirrored her personality—bright, nurturing, and filled with life.

As we celebrate the life of Loula Merikas, we remember her as a funny, wonderful wife, an exceptional mother, and an inspiring caretaker who touched the lives of all who knew her. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, who are forever grateful for the memories made and the love shared.

A funeral service to honor Loula’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 30, 2026, at Maryhill Cemetery Chapel, 8600 N. Milwaukee Avenue in Niles, IL. Interment in Maryhill Cemetery will follow privately. May she rest in peace and her memory be eternal.
