Jonathan Olmos, 17, of Des Plaines, passed away Sept. 11, 2018. He succumbed to lung disease after overcoming a lifetime of health issues including the defeat of two bouts with cancer.
Beloved son of Kevin Massat and Rosalie Zirretta and the late Maria Ivel; loving brother of Guy Zirretta and Kristian Ivel; cherished cousin of Julian and Noah Garcia; devoted grandson of Jeff and Anna Gillespie and Carl Zirretta; dearest nephew of Rebecca Zirretta (Armando Garcia), Jesse Gillespie and Eddie (Melissa) Ivel.
Jonathan would have entered his senior year at Maine East High School where he participated in the high school’s theater and drama program. He was a skilled crew member, primarily managing stage lighting and set building. Jonathan’s artistic talent also included drawing and singing his favorite songs way off key. He was an extremely intelligent young man with the most wonderful sense of humor, finding great joy in making others laugh with his wit. As a young boy, Jonathan enjoyed the camaraderie and adventure of Boy Scouts, but later learned to love a seat on the couch competing with his brother in video gaming. Additional favorite activities included listening to music and time spent with his best friend, Bree. Jonathan was a loving, kind hearted soul who was passionate about life with so many dreams for his future that included becoming a nurse to help children through illnesses he himself was all too familiar with. His warmth touched and impacted the lives of all those he came in contact with throughout his lifetime whether it was a teacher, doctor, nurse or even a stranger he met on the street. He was deeply loved by all who knew him. He will be profoundly missed and never forgotten.
A celebration honoring and remembering Jonathan will be held privately.
