Helga L. Dehning, a beloved sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on May 10, 1933, in Germany, Helga lived a life full of resilience and love, having experienced the profound transformations of the world around her.

As a young girl, Helga endured the trials of World War II, an experience that shaped her remarkable spirit. Following the loss of her father in the war, her mother met and married an American soldier, which led to their immigration to the United States-a brave new beginning filled with hope.

A proud and independent woman, Helga never married and did not have children of her own. However, she was a guiding light in the life of her niece, Monja, nurturing her with love and wisdom and sharing her culinary talents. Helga's passion for cooking and baking left lasting memories, as she imparted her skills and cherished family recipes to Monja, creating a bond as close as that of a second mother.

Throughout her varied career, Helga worked at Eastman Kodak Company and spent many joyful years as a restaurant hostess, where her warm and easygoing nature made her a favorite among patrons. In her later years, she dedicated herself to caring for the elderly, showcasing her compassionate spirit and unwavering commitment to those in need.

Helga's life was not without its challenges. She bravely survived a traumatic incident with a former boyfriend that threatened her life, but thanks to the swift actions of her sister, Christa Kirchhoff, and brother-in-law, she survived, proving her resilience and strength. Helga emerged from this experience with a renewed appreciation for life and the love of her family.

Helga and her sister Christa shared a bond that spanned their entire lives, never separated and always supporting one another. Their love and devotion to each other stood as a steadfast testament to family.

A lover of flowers, Helga found joy in their beauty, a reflection of her own vibrant spirit. She will be remembered for her laid-back attitude, infectious laughter, and the warmth she brought to all she encountered.

Helga L. Dehning leaves behind her cherished sister, Christa Kirchhoff; her loving niece, Monja West (Kevin Brannigan); her adoring great nephews, Raymond, Steven, Jonathan and Ryan; and her treasured great, great niece Reiley. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Mariechem Dehning.

Friends and family will meet on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at All Saints Cemetery Chapel, 700 N. River Road, Des Plaines for a Prayer Service at 9:30 a.m. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the beauty of the flowers she so adored.
