Heinz Grob, 75, of Chicago, formerly of Switzerland, passed away August 25, 2021.  Beloved husband for 48 years of Barbara, nee Krause; loving father of Tom; cherished grandfather of Finn; treasured brother of Brigitte (Toni) Weber and Erika (Martin) Abplanalp; caring cousin of Rosmarie Weber; devoted son in law of Gisela Krebs; adored Götti of Miles Monarrez and Christian Eno; fond uncle, cousin and dear friend of many.

Born in Zurich, Switzerland, his love for the mountains stayed with him to the end. Sports were a big part of his life from running, skiing and mountain climbing.

After High School he entered an apprenticeship as a Machine Tool Fitter at Oerlikon Bührle. Being a bit of an adventurer, he immigrated to Montreal, Canada in late 1960 with his best friend. His connection with Bührle landed him a job as Service Engineer for Olkon in Connecticut, USA where he stayed until 1971. That year proved to be life changing as he met his future wife over his Christmas/New Year vacation with his family.  By December of 1971 he had moved back to Switzerland.

Heinz picked up a job again at Oerlikon Bührle this time as a Sales Engineer.   In 1977, married and with one son, the opportunity presented itself to go back to America. This time landing in Chicago, IL where he was able to provide a comfortable life for his family. He became a huge fan of the Bears and Black Hawks. His career took him from Marketing Manager, to General Manager and later being promoted to VP at Illinois Tool Works. His profession took him all over the world, visiting 6 continents. He retired in May 2010.

In 2006 the diagnosis of Multiple Myeloma changed and altered his life. His plan of living to 100 was short changed and yet he never gave up. Through it all he always had a positive attitude, hoping for the next new treatment to come along and always believing there would be a cure.

Heinz’s remains will be scattered in his beloved mountains of Switzerland.  No other service will be held.
