Daniel Cruz Chirinos, 79, longtime resident of Chicago, passed away November 19, 2021. Beloved husband of Leonor Carlotina (Reyes) Chirinos; loving father of Sonia (Lincoyan Cea), Mario H. (Ana), Ivan N. (Myra), David A. (Rosie C. and the late Diana), Sara L., Moises D. and Paulina E. Chirinos; cherished grandfather of Cynthia, Ivancito, Sara Leonor Marie, Linquito, Antonio, Abbyy, Jonathan, Daniel “Danny” and Rocco; adored great grandfather of Jazmin, Julianna, Andrea and Azula; devoted son of the late Alberto Chirinos and Victorina Cruz and grandson of the late Doña Maria Cruz; dearest brother of the late David Chirinos and Graciela “Chela” Cruz; fond uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Daniel came to America over 50 years ago from Honduras in search of a better life for his family. Who would’ve thought that his first job as a dishwasher earning $34 a week would eventually lead him to bigger and better things? With his wife always beside him, they both worked hard and eventually became owners of many multi-unit buildings (five to be exact) in which all of the family have lived in at some point or another as they all immigrated to the United States, and some actually still remain living in those buildings! His true accolades, however, consisted of being first elder of the Iglesia Adventista del séptimo Día del Norte. He worked hard for the church as it gave him much gratitude in helping others and in building that personal relationship with God. In true Christlike manner, he would go out to help feed the homeless and provide warm blankets, food and a kind word in hopes of preserving their dignity. Daniel was an adventurer with a ripple effect that reached many generations. His constant curiosity led him to continually grow and develop many hobbies and talents involving drawing, playing the accordion, singing and storytelling (those where the best); but what is cherished the most was his divine gift of seeing the inner goodness and light in others and managing to pull forth their inner valiant spirit and strength with his words of wisdom and his strong Christian faith.
