Willia Carr-Parker

July 11, 1936 — June 28, 2022

Willia Carr-Parker, transitioned from this life to eternal rest on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, just 13 days shy of her 86th birthday.

A brilliant, beautiful, outgoing, Christian lady, Willia touched and influenced many lives.

After her graduation from Walter L. Cohen High School (New Orleans) and earning her Bachelor’s degree from Southern University (Baton Rouge), she taught English for 50 years: Fifth Ward H.S.(Reserve, LA), Farragut, Harrison, John Hope, Chicago Vocational and other high schools (Chicago).

Willia was an active member of Trinity United Church of Christ. She was also very active in her community, especially as founder of W. I. S. for Larabida Children’s Hospital, a fundraising organization.

Dementia is an awful disease that steals pieces of your loved one a moment at a time; but it cannot erase who Willia was and remains to those who knew and loved her - a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, an aunt, a cousin, a friend, a neighbor, a teacher, a mentor…

“Weep not, weep not, she is not dead; she’s resting in the bosom of Jesus.” (James Weldon Johnson)

A Graveside Service was held privately on Friday, July 1st at Mt. Hope Cemetery.  Please see below to view the processional to the grave as well as the committal graveside prayer service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association , 225 N. Michigan Ave. Floor 17 Chicago, IL 60601.
